5th June is celebrated every year as World Environment Day (WED) by United Nations, for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment. The event has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries.

To reaffirm our commitment towards ensuring “Environmental Sustainability”, every year DIAL celebrates and makes commitment for environment wellbeing on the World Environment Day. This year, the theme by the United Nations is - “Ecosystem Restoration” and it calls for global action from everyone to do their part in healing our ailing planet. Restoring ecosystems carries substantial environmental, social and economic benefits for people.

“Ecosystem Restoration means assisting in the recovery of ecosystems that have been degraded or destroyed, as well as conserving the ecosystems that are still intact. It calls for urgent action from everyone to do their part in healing our ailing planet. Restoring ecosystems carries substantial environmental, social and economic benefits for people.”

At Delhi Airport, we are always committed to conduct business in an environment-friendly and sustainable manner by adopting globally recognized standards, systems and safeguards. As an organization, we are passionate about sustainable development and have always demonstrated how a balance between development and ecosystem protection can be achieved. Our efforts have also been appreciated and recognized at various global platforms. Some of our key measures that benefits the ecosystem are-

  • Green Infrastructure development to reduce ecological footprint.
  • Green area development by using native and adaptive plants.
  • Use of renewable energy that prevents ecosystem degradation by conserving natural resources
  • Elimination of single use plastics, which is one of major cause of ecosystem degradation globally
  • Effective waste management programs to ensure waste diversion from landfills.
  • Robust water management system including 16.6 MLD Zero Liquid Discharge STP, Rain water harvesting etc.
  • Adoption of ACI’s Airport Carbon Accreditation and achievement of Level 4+ to ensure climate change concerns are managed effectively and the impacts of climate change on ecosystem is reduced.

At Delhi Airport, Every day is considered as Environment Day, as “care for environment” is one of the integral part of DIAL’s organisational Mission. DIAL is committed towards continuing its efforts of providing safety, security and enhanced passenger experience while ensuring sustainable development at Delhi Airport.
