Indira Gandhi International Airport is one of the largest and most advanced airports in India. Boasting expansive infrastructure and 4 runway operations, it offers a realm of opulent comfort to its discerning passengers.
Since 2006, IGI Airport has been operated by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) and has consistently met all the standards mandated by both local and international civil aviation authorities for operators.
However, certain concerns impede the operations of airport authorities notably, bird strikes during aircraft take-off and landing phase. The occasional collisions between aircraft and birds consistently draw significant attention from aviation regulators and airports.
Delhi Airport continuously sustains attempts to uplift aircraft security. We follow a well-defined and standardized wildlife hazard management practice to keep Bird strikes under acceptable limits. However, our efforts will produce the best results when simultaneously supported by citizen's preventive efforts.
Comprehending the clear need for aircraft safety, we ensure following standardized and well-defined wildlife hazard management practices. We further appeal to the Delhi/NCR citizens to contribute their efforts to the initiative.
Let’s discuss some effective measures that can greatly help in increasing the safety of aircraft in take-off and landing phase:
1. Avoid throwing household and kitchen waste near the Airport as it can attract birds and rodents, increasing the chances of bird strike.
2. Avoid feeding the birds and pigeons near the airport. The birds may start living nearby; creating a possible threat of aircraft collision.
3. Avoid slaughtering animals in the open area as its unhealthy and unhygienic residue will attract birds.
4. Please do not rear pigeons (kabutar bazi) near the airport vicinity. Pigeon rearing carried out in flocks in the approach path/funnel area of the aircraft movement increases the bird strike probability.
Additionally to these efforts, any abandoned buildings, structures, or trees with a possibility of bat movements should immediately be informed to Delhi Airport.
