Passengers using the Indira Gandhi International Airport's new Terminal-3 which recently commenced international operations will soon be able to avail of self check-in counters and web check-in facilities.
At present there are six check-in counters in the transfer area. “Tentatively in a week's time we are going to provide up to four self check-in counters and up to two web check-in counters in the transfer area. All these facilities will transform T3 into a hub which is what we are aiming at,” said Delhi International Airport Limited terminal management vice-president Ashwani Khanna.
The baggage issues which were being witnessed at T3 too had been addressed and passengers now have to wait for an average of 45 minutes from the time they leave the aircraft till the moment they receive their baggage. “This is an improvement from the problems that were being initially faced,” Mr. Khanna said.
A number of facilities are available in the transfer area such as self-medication rooms, basic eating provisions, childcare facilities and toilets. T3 has eight departure-entry gates of which six are being manned and used for international operations. “These gates are huge and have two entrances each. In T2, there were only four gates,” Mr. Khanna said.
DIAL staff too has been given high-visibility jackets to wear so that they can easily be spotted by passengers and visitors needing help. Four such DIAL personnel have been deployed at each of the arrivals and departure levels.
